Open up a big project is not sustainable on a log run. People demand too much, but few people contribute to pull requests and helping with it.

A more sustainable strategy is to open up libraries and utilities related to your project with a much smaller scope. Those are more manageable to support - since a smaller codebase is easier to contribute too.
